Last night, I was thinking about what to cook for dinner. I was home alone for dinner, and after running 5km, swimming 1.8km and cycling 20 km, I just wanted a quick simple meal without too much fuss. I made Spaghetti ala Norma and as I was eating it, watching the lights of Patong from my balcony, I thought about a very special Italian whom I have shared many spaghetti with in Jakarta. And I thought, wow, I have been so blessed with the people who had walked through my life – most of them had left such beautiful footprints that still give me joy years later, as if their presence will be with my for life, showering me with good memories always.
We come into a person’s life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. It’s all part of the interconnectivity of life, part of its rich tapestry. I have learned, we can never manipulate the reason into a season nor a season into a lifetime, but how we act and the things we say have a profound effect on the lives of others – you could be the reason for someone’s pain or you could be the reason someone’s joy, irrespective of whether you are in their lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. What do you want to be remembered for?
This is a screenshot of a video blog I made for this Italian in his kitchen, cooking for him on the day he was flying back to Jakarta from Milan. I watched the video again last night and was flooded with happy memories. We were tough teachers for each other but I think we taught each other well, as we did it with kindness and love. I felt all the positive emotions when I think back. What a beautiful set of footprints, Blue Eyes.
Sorrido .. quando ti penso …perchè capisco che riesci a darmi tanto anche da così lontano.
How would someone feel, what would he or she say about you and your footprints? This is what I said about him and his mother…oh, so very publicly.
