I have a terrible reputation – I am a book fiend.  I devour books and I can’t stop buying them. Sometimes, my children would look in askance at my purchased. I bought this a few weeks ago when I was browsing in a bookshop in my hometown:


Needless to say, my children thought I was mad.

But you know what, we all need reminding to be grateful for the PRESENCE in our lives everyday. Not the grand gestures and the big wow things, but the one who wakes you up with a loving smile, and you know that your life is better because they’re in it, but sometimes, you forget.

I sometimes forget that my soulmate has amazing hands that are steady and strong yet tender when he touches me, and how much love is transmitted in each and every touch. Little gestures that I don’t think he himself even notices, like pushing my hair away from my face and tucking it behind my ear.  He does that in his sleep.  I forget, too, because it is the of the fabric of our life and I forget to be grateful for the abundance that I wake up with every morning.

Similarly, with my daughter.  It is challenging being mother to a strong-minded, feisty and fearless teen hellbent on imposing her will on the world. We clash, and I all too often forget her sweetness.

So here’s a little exercise for you to do if you wish (I strongly recommend it).  Sit down for 10 minutes with a piece of paper and pen. Paper and pen, not laptop or smart phone, because trust me, the experience will be different.  Sit down with your writing tools and do this for 10 minutes:
