One of the most enduring quotes about wellbeing is “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”, by Hippocrates. Yet in these modern times, food are synthetic, processed and non-nurturing, whilst medicine comes out of a bottle and is synthesised by factories making indecent amount of profit for the shareholders.
My friend Mario recently shared this photo on Facebook from his Instagram:
I strongly believe that when you eat you create your future self, and thus, it is so very important to eat vibrant, living food as far as possible. You are a reflection of what you eat after all.
Whenever someone is feeling meh in my family, I double the dosage of the colourful food in our diet. This was from the day my partner returned from the UK (flying visit, terse time, winter weather), which sorts him out almost instantly:
Just so that we don’t get his blues too, I prescribed this for the whole family: carrot and passionfruit juice and beetroot, ginger and parsley, both of which I ran through my cold-pressed, slow-juicer.
Nothing is ever wasted from our kitchen. The hard skin goes to the composter, and the pulp of the beetroot went towards making this beetroot, chocolate and walnut brownies:
You can find the recipe here.
Some of the pulp went into this rich bolognaise sauce, made from scratch:
You can get the recipe here. It’s an all-time favourite.
So yes, do go for it. Celebrate life in full, glorious colours. My friends often exclaim that it is amazing that my family will drink the concoctions I put in front of them, but hey, it’s better than being sick all the time! Good health to you ❤
