I can’t sing for the life of me. But my partner said, “New life, Jac, means not sitting at home waiting for your children to call. And life is not all about running and yoga either!”

I was quite annoyed when I was booked in for a singing session at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. OK, the windsurfing course at Docklands Sailing Centre was fun, but singing??? I had just started a new job and was more than slightly overwhelmed being back in the corporate world after such a long absence …. I would rather have an afternoon in a spa somewhere than singing with a bunch of vocally talented strangers!

But on this grey rainy day in November, the Opera House was bright and warm. And much to my surprise, I  thoroughly enjoyed learning how to sing and perform the joyous “It’s a long road to Tipperary.” I find myself humming the catchy and strutting the moves.

“Don’t give up your day job yet,” he said with a smirk. Though I’m going to try my luck here in my local pub with a travelling Irish band next Saturday.

Yes, do try singing. Join a choir, especially if it’s not something you normally do x
